The mepod revolution
Have you ever wondered why so many people have ipods? Could it be that they really, really, really like music and can't live without it steaming into their ears? A few months ago I saw this girl and could not resist capturing the moment. Back turned to the street, earphones playing away, camouflage pants blending with her surrounds. She had created her own space. Is this the mepod revolution?

Handcrafts
I must admit, i do love knitting. A few years ago it was common practice to see trendies all over the world whipping out their needles in cafes and bars. I must admit, portability of the craft is a positive - I can't realistically see myself at a bar with the singer machine buzzing away next to me. But my interest in the craft goes beyond fashion or trend. I find knitting to be a medium that has limitless possibilities. A few weeks ago it was knit one purl one, but when you have no prior learnings good things can come from experimentation. I think there is something to come from that, sometimes its good to unlearn, or let go, so you can experience something formally known in a new way.
Big New Treats!
I have just treated myself to a swish new camera, big purchases are few and far between when your a poor student. However, money, who needs money when you capture moments like these.........

I have no image to post today, just a brief message - Remember to notice those who are dear to you. It is so very easy to overlook the ones who are closest. You could hug your friend, tell you mum that you love her, smile at a stranger, give your kitten a few extra kibbles, offer a helping hand......

Supermodern experiments
As part of my fashion design studies i have been playing with the idea of clothing as communication.....literally what if your jumper could speak?? Within the supermodern context (see my first post) I believe we need to promote human interaction, we very rarely connect with the people in our surroundings and from this a very isolated feeling is experienced. I propose clothing designs that bridge this gap, garmentsthat identify with others. This experimental jumper will have a small speaker in the neck/collar that whispers recorded messages from your ipod.

What is the Supermodern?
This may seem like a long post, but i ask you to hang in there..........it will all make sense in the end.
As part of my 3rd year fashion design studies I am investigating the "supermodern condition" it is a concept at times even my lecturers have trouble communicating - and to be honest i think i only just comprehend it myself. In essence, the term "supermodern" is linked with the writings of Marc Auge a french anthropologist who comments on the relationship between the excess of "time, space and ego" within the urban environment of "transitional spaces" and "non places".
I hear your brains in anguish....supermodern, transitional, time, space...what the!
Let me share with you this image, picture yourself on a train or at an airport. You travel through this space having no direct "emotional or historical" connection with it. It is a transitory place, where your surroundings are filled with the faces of strangers. You are bombarded with information, "next city train departs platform one", "please mind the gap", " purchase one t-shirt get another free", "donate to charity, help a child in need". Lights flicker and dance on flat screen monitors, people move past you - smears of blending color, no one speaks. Many commuters arm themselves with electronic distractions such as ipods, mobile phones and hand held gadgets.
Welcome to the supermodern.

And so it begins...
My work room is very clean at the moment. Thanks to my generous neighbor I now have this wonderful filing cabinet....it is the beginning to the end of my disorganization. This is also the beginning of my blog "remember to notice". For those who also like to stop, pause and observe, I hope to share with you a little of my creative world as I stumble through this crazy place called life.....
